A free Excel dashboard built for traders who want portfolio-level performance views without building charts from scratch. It includes an equity curve, drawdown tracker, monthly P&L heatmap, and win rate breakdown by setup — all linked to a single trade log sheet.

What’s Included

  • Trade Log Worksheet — Structured input sheet with columns for date, ticker, direction, prices, size, fees, and setup type. All dashboard charts pull from this sheet.
  • Equity Curve Chart — Cumulative P&L line chart that updates automatically as trades are added, showing account growth over time.
  • Drawdown Chart — Peak-to-trough visualization that tracks how far the account drops from each new high, making risk visible.
  • Monthly P&L Heatmap — Color-coded grid with months on one axis and years on the other. Green for gains, red for losses, intensity scaled to magnitude.
  • Win Rate by Setup Chart — Bar chart that breaks down win percentage by setup type, so traders can see which strategies actually deliver.
  • Summary Statistics Panel — Key metrics including total P&L, win rate, average winner, average loser, profit factor, and largest drawdown in a single view.
  • R-Multiple Calculations — Pre-built formulas that convert raw P&L into risk-adjusted returns based on initial stop distance.

How to Use

Step 1: Enter Your Trades

Open the TradeLog sheet and enter one row per trade. Fill in columns A through J: date, ticker, long/short, entry price, exit price, shares, commission, setup type, stop price, and notes. The P&L column (K) calculates automatically using =(E2-D2)*F2-G2 for long trades.

Step 2: Tag Your Setups

In column H, type a setup label for each trade — breakout, pullback, VWAP bounce, earnings gap, or whatever categories match your strategy. Keep labels consistent; “Breakout” and “breakout” will be treated as separate setups.

Step 3: Review the Dashboard

Navigate to the Dashboard sheet. The equity curve plots cumulative P&L from cell K in the TradeLog. The drawdown chart calculates running max equity and shows the percentage decline from each peak. Both charts extend automatically as new rows are added.

Step 4: Analyze Monthly Performance

The heatmap uses SUMPRODUCT formulas to aggregate P&L by month and year, with conditional formatting that shifts from deep red (worst month) to deep green (best month). Look for clusters — three red months in a row often signals a strategy or market-fit problem.

Step 5: Identify Your Best Setups

The setup breakdown chart calculates win rate and average P&L per setup type. A setup with 65% win rate but $45 average gain may underperform a 40% win rate setup averaging $200 per winner. Check both metrics before deciding what to scale.

Key Benefits

  • Instant visual overview — Four charts on one sheet replace hours of manual charting and give a complete picture of trading performance.
  • Setup-level analysis — Most traders track overall win rate but never isolate which setups drive profits. This dashboard breaks it down automatically.
  • Drawdown awareness — Seeing peak-to-trough decline as a percentage forces honest risk assessment that raw P&L totals can mask.
  • Seasonal pattern detection — The monthly heatmap reveals performance trends across months and years that daily trade reviews miss.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Excel version do I need for this trading dashboard?

The dashboard works with Excel 2016 and later, including Microsoft 365. Earlier versions may not render the conditional formatting heatmap correctly.

Can I add custom setup types to the performance dashboard?

Yes. Type any setup name in the Setup column of the TradeLog sheet. The win rate chart automatically picks up new setup labels and recalculates.

How many trades can the Excel dashboard handle?

The template supports up to 2,000 trades before chart rendering slows down. For larger datasets, consider splitting by year or switching to a dedicated app like JournalPlus.

Does the dashboard calculate risk-adjusted returns?

Yes. The summary panel includes Sharpe-style calculations based on your trade returns, plus average R-multiple and profit factor. Enter your stop price in the TradeLog to enable R-multiple tracking.

Can I use this dashboard with Google Sheets?

The basic layout imports into Google Sheets, but conditional formatting and some chart types may not transfer cleanly. Use the dedicated Google Sheets trading journal for that format. For a simpler trade tracker, see the trade tracker for Google Sheets.
